Coturnix Quail, raised right.

All of our Coturnix quail were bred, hatched, and raised on the farm, which means we were able to hone our operation to our ideals. Our birds lived to the highest standard of care, whether in our planted aviary or on pasture, and were selected for gorgeous egg color, unique feather patterns and color, and overall carcass quality.

We maintained a breeding flock of approximately 80 quail in a spacious planted aviary where they were free to express natural behaviors. They were fed a diet of high-protein gamebird crumbles and organic produce, in addition to their planted forage.

The eggs laid by our breeding flock supplied our pastured quail operation, in addition to being available locally for fresh eating.

Eggs were hatched weekly, and quail chicks were kept in our Nursery until they were feathered, around 3 weeks. Once they were hardy enough, they were moved outside to our portable quail houses, where they remained until harvest.

Our portable quail houses were tailor made to fit the needs of these little game birds; each contained a raised box where the skittish birds could hide for safety, and had 6-foot tall roofs so that they wouldn’t injure themselves when flying. Each house was moved daily to fresh pasture, allowing the quail to search for bugs and enjoy fresh greens. We believe this enhanced their already complex flavor.

At 8 weeks, quail were harvested on-site in our FDA approved mobile processing facility.

In an effort to use every part of the bird, a portion of our weekly harvest was skinned in order to provide premium quality quail pelts to the fly tying and craft community. Pelts were air dried and graded for quality.
